Each year, dozens of alumni, parents, and friends of the school return to Olney for our annual Homecoming event. This year, we welcomed familiar folks back for a weekend filled with food, fun, farm activities, and unforgettable festivities.
On Friday night, the extended Olney community gathered for a wonderful meal in the dining room. Students and guests then relaxed in the Collection Room for our Coffee House/Open Mic Night. We enjoyed performances on the piano, cello, flute, and guitar, as well as short stories, songs, and poems.
Saturday morning, former humanities teacher Eric Lundblade (Hon '14) returned to win the annual Olney Distance Run with a time of 16:19. Anteneh Hodes '16 had the fastest time of all alumni with a mark of 20:16 while 9th grader Christian Ufitikirezi finished first among current students at 20:41. Over 80 people participated in this years race.
A wonderful luncheon was served by our kitchen staff on the front lawn, followed by our second annual Harvest Festival, which took place on top campus. Numerous vendors and artisans sold hand-made and organic foods and crafts. Visitors were able to feed our goats, join Farm Manager Don Guindon '74 for a hay ride, and learn more about our 350-acre USDA certified organic campus.
That afternoon, a stalwart alumni team comprised of players ranging from the Classes of 1963 to 2016 squared off on the soccer field against the student squad, which was entering on the momentum of an 8-1 regular season record. For the first time in years, the students secured a victory in the annual showdown, posting an 8-2 final.
To add some musical flavor, The Elk River Rounds and D. R. Stanley '66 provided tunes throughout the weekend.
Thanks to everyone who joined us this year. We look forward to seeing you back soon!
