Environmental Information Event a Success at Olney

More than fifty people attended the Health and Community Impacts of Oil and Gas Development meeting at Olney Friends School. Experts shared their knowledge about fracking and local residents were given the opportunity to share their stories and ask questions.

Nicole Deziel, Assistant Professor of Epidemiology at the Yale School of Public Health, gave an overview of fracking, fracking chemicals, and reviewed her Ohio Water and Air Quality study.

Melanie Houston of the Ohio Environmental Council talked about the health impacts associated with living near oil and gas facilities, the Oil and Gas Threat Map, and OEC’S methane campaign.

Joshua Pribanic, an investigative journalist, Editor-in-Chief for Public Herald, and Co-Director of the the films Triple Divide and Invisible Hand, discussed air and water impacts from unconventional oil and gas development in Pennsylvania.

Jill Hunkler, Environmental Outreach Coordinator for Olney Friends School, spoke about the issues area residents have faced due to oil and gas development in the area.
